Interview with Raging Fyah
Raging Fyah is one of the hottest new Roots Rock Reggae bands coming out of Jamaica. The 5-member band is making waves all around the world. Known for their intricate harmonies, nuanced musicianship and impressive songwriting skills, showcased on their self-released albums Judgment Day (2011) and Destiny (2014). Their new album Everlasting debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae charts. Not only does the album showcase their powerful, unique sound, it also solidifies their place among Reggae greats including England’s Aswad and Steel Pulse, and Jamaica’s beloved Third World. The band has certainly made a name for itself, and it is well on their way to Reggae stardom.
The band is currently on tour. BTS Magazine caught up with them, curious to find out more about the band's inception and the vision they embody through their music: Who are the members of Raging Fyah? Raging Fyah members are Kumar Bent, Demar Gayle, Anthony Watson, Delroy Hamilton, and Courtland White "Gizmo" When and how did Raging Fyah come together as a band? Demar, Pele and Anthony were enrolled in Edna Marley on 2002 and that's where we met as friends. We use to play in groups together, and that's where we started to create a sound, and in 2006 we decide to make a name for the band. We met with Gizmo, and then Kumar and have been Raging Fyah ever since. What producers have you worked with? Raging Fyah has worked with different producers, Frankie Music, Stone Love, Clive Hunt and we recently did our Everlasting Album with Lamar 'Riff Raff' Brown. |

What is your vision for the community and how does your music play a part in that vision?
Our vision for the community is to see people become more self reliant, and understand the economy of growing our own products and supporting local markets, our music is a part of that. In one of our songs we say, "Don't sit aside and criticize, go help yourself.” We try to bring across that awareness to people, to be more joyful at the end of the day.
What is the message behind your music?
The message behind our music is LOVE.
We spread it through roots rock and reggae music.
That's our underlining message.
Tell us about the song Dash Wata. Where can people get it?
Dash Wata is one of those songs on the album that came together through fun, thinking about life and how we create life, water is life, so we just give it a Jamaican slang "Dash Wata."
Dash Wata is available iTunes, Amazon, it's on the album so you must get it!
