A Post Malone Concert in Your Living Room?
By Lara Barg
Imagine being immersed into your own private concert in the comfort of your living room, bed, wherever you can plug a VR headset into. Well Post Malone imagined the same thing so that on July 16th you could've gone to his VR concert in partnership with Meta Quest, a VR (Virtual Reality) headset company of Meta, previously known as Facebook.
With a lineup of Kid Laroi, Roddy Rich and Fleet Foxes, Malone performed his recently dropped album Twelve Carat Toothache in virtual reality. Malone told Billboard that “What really appealed to me was Meta being a great partner and allowing us to go absolutely nuts..It’s just a really cool, really different way to experience the album.” According to the Oculus website, “joining the party” only takes three steps: Downloading Horizon Worlds, an app with the featured content, clicking on the Worlds Tab and finally choosing the event you want to enjoy (Meta Quest). If you missed the original three time loop of the concert, the featured artists on the released album alongside Post Malone are still available to watch on the Quest 2 VR Set till September 30th.
The forty minute set list is only one component of Horizon Block Party, a summer marathon of virtual events in the deemed “Metaverse”. Also part of the Meta event is a virtual world based off of Jordan Peele’s third directed film Nope. As the website describes it, the summer long virtual festivities are “.. an all-access pass to amazing VR content, including big name music performances, exciting sporting events, cool film experiences and more.”
Don’t worry if you don’t have a VR headset though: the virtual concert will also be available on Facebook Watch and Instagram in 2D. But if you really want the 8K resolution and 180 degree view, strap on your headset and dive into a world of Post Malone.
