A Prelude to Renaissance: Beyonce’s Tik Tok Era
By Intern Blogger Lara Barg
Four million followers, two point four million likes, over thirty million views and it hasn’t even been two months since the first video has been posted. Of course I’m describing Beyonce’s recently made Tik Tok account, in prelude to her album being released at the end of July.
Beyonce’s first post was a collage for and by her fans: Numerous Tik Toks cut into one video responding and dancing to Beyonce’s “Break My Soul” garnered over twenty five million views. Beyonce gives her thanks to her fans writing in the caption, “Seeing y’all release the wiggle made me so happy! Thank you so much for all the love for BREAK MY SOUL! - Love B”. This wasn’t the end of her posts though…
Her second video showcases her vinyl for her album, Renaissance, where latex gloved hands present numerous sleeves for the vinyl. The sleeves showcase different halves of various Beyonce's looks and mix and match them together to complete her face. The actual vinyl cover depicts Beyonce on top of a metallic horse, with a cowboy hat and metallic chains wrapped around her body. The gloved hands take out the vinyl with the same metallic horse on the label, as “Break My Soul”, Beyonce’s recently released single off the album, plays in the background. Many seemed excited to see the pop icon on the infamous social media app, with comments such as “Not you being active” and “BEYONCE TIK TOK ERA I'M OBSESSED” littering the comment section of her second posted video.
A week after the post on July 21st, the day of the album release, Beyonce decided to remind her fans to go take a listen with a newly posted Tik Tok. Shots of her dressed in stiletto heels, a cowboy hat once again, sunglasses, and a hard-to-forget fringe jacket flash on the screen as “PURE/HONEY” off the album can be heard playing. The screen turns black to reveal “act 1 Renaissance” followed by “out now”. People could hardly contain their excitement: even the official Tik Tok account wrote under the post “HIVE WE’RE NOT SLEEPING TONIGHT” with almost thirteen thousand people liking the comment in agreement.
The hype of the album isn’t surprising: This is Beyonce’s first single album since 2016 with the release of her album “Lemonade”. Renaissance, the 16 song album, already has millions of listens on Spotify, and is No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart. The album has already sold 190,000 copies and all the songs off the album have made their way onto Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. All of this excitement seems to say that Beyonce still holds a large grasp on the music industry.
