Vampires, Hunters and Pool Cleaning: The New Netflix Film Starring Jamie Fox and Snoop Dog

Hitting your screen this summer are Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dog in a Netflix film titled “Day Shift”. The film follows Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx) a working pool man in Los Angeles supporting his wife and eight year old daughter. But cleaning pools is just a front for Bud’s real job: hunting and killing vampires, then afterwards cashing out by selling the collected vampire fangs. The R rated movie features a multitude of gory action scenes and a star studded cast including Jamie Foxx as “Bud Jablonski”, Snoop Dog as “Big John Elliot”, and Dave Franco as “Seth”. Snoop Dog seems to play a fellow vampire killer who is helping Bud get back “…into the slayer’s guild”, for an “...upgrade from freelance pay to the guild’s steady wages” (We Got This Covered. Franco’s character gives the impression of an oblivious newcomer to vampire hunting providing comedic relief.
This will be a directorial debut for J.J. Perry, who has stunt-coordinated for movies such as John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2. The screenplay writer for the film is Tyler Tice, with Shay Hatten, who you might know for writing “John Wick Three- Parabellum”, providing rewrites. Jamie Foxx also takes a behind-the-scenes role for the film, signing up not only as a lead actor, but as an executive producer for the film as well.
The movie is set to be released August 12th, 2022 on Netflix exclusively, although filming began in June of last year with scenes being shot in Atlanta and L.A. The film budget was an estimated 100 million and resulted in some seemingly intense action sequences. The trailer is out now, with scenes such as Foxx’s character discussing the Twilight saga, Snoop Dog shooting vampires, and Franco’s character peeing himself after witnessing a vampire hunt for the first time. In the words of Snoop Dog’s character, this movie is all about “...cutting necks and cashing checks..” with some hilariously brutal vampire killings.
